The Fiscal Times: Opinion- Bruce Bartlett- Why a Mitt Romney Loss Could Save the Republican Party

Mitt Romney losing the presidential election, would be good for the Republican Party for this reason. Even if House Republicans hold onto their majority, that I believe they will whoever the President is next year, but with a smaller majority, because it would give the Republican Party and opportunity to rebuild the GOP. With the way the demographics are going in the country, that favors Democrats long-term and short-term because we are becoming younger and more minority and more liberal-libertarian on social issues. Which favors Democrats as well as Libertarians, if the Libertarian Party ever became a factor in American Politics. But looks real bad for the GOP which has moved much further to the right on social issues and has become more statist on these issues as they've advocated for constitutional amendments to things that are currently legal. Like pornography and things that are becoming more legal in America like same-sex marriage. These issues favor Democrats right now.

Losing the presidential election would give the Republican Party and opportunity to figure out how they appeal to minorities and young people who in many cases like the Republican message when it comes to economic and fiscal policy. But tend to be more liberal-libertarian on social issues. But the good news for the GOP is they only have to go back to being the party that they use to be. With Barry Goldwater and Ron Reagan. A big government out of our wallets and bedrooms party.
